Depending on the fin system your surfboard uses, you must choose between the traditional FCS dual tab like these, or the more recent one used by most boards currently being manufactured, the FCS 2 fin system.
WHICH FCS SURF FINS TO CHOOSE?
When choosing your FCS fins, you should take the following factors into account:
Your weight and height. As a general rule, the greater your weight and height, the larger the size of the fin should be.
The material they are made of, which will make them lighter, as is the case with Aircore; more reactive, like the PC; or mimic the classic fixed fins and their stiffness, like the PPC.
The shape of the fin determines its performance. Within the FCS 2 fin range, you will basically find 4 different types.
- REACTOR: Tight turns. For boards with low rocker in beach breaks and hollow waves.
- PERFORMER: All-around. For all types of boards and waves.
- ACCELERATOR: All-around+. For powerful waves and all types of boards, including step-ups.
- CARVER: Long, drawn-out turns. Point breaks and long waves where you want to carve, for boards with a pronounced rocker.
