What thickness of wetsuit should I choose?

Depending on the water temperature where you are going to surf, this is what you should choose:

• Water at 21ºC or warmer – Swimsuit and a neoprene top or vest.
• Between 17ºC and 21ºC – 2mm short wetsuit or a 3/4 wetsuit with short sleeves or legs.
• If it is between 14ºC and 17ºC – A 3/2mm wetsuit.
• From 12ºC to 15ºC – A 4/3mm wetsuit.
• 10ºC to 12ºC – A 4/3mm wetsuit with added surfing booties.
• 8ºC to 10ºC – A 5mm wetsuit, with booties, gloves, and a neoprene hood.
• 8ºC or colder - Full 6/5/4mm suit, with booties, gloves, and a neoprene hood.

What use am I going to give my wetsuit?

If you are going to use it sporadically, an affordable basic wetsuit will be enough for days with pleasant temperatures.

If you are going to use it more frequently and also do so in winter, you will need a mid-range model that has sealed seams.

For example, the most common choice on our coasts for year-round use would be a 4/3mm wetsuit, combined with booties, gloves, or a neoprene hood on the coldest days.

And if you use it regularly, high-end wetsuits will provide you with the optimal combination of warmth and elasticity.

Tips for taking care of your wetsuit?

To extend the useful life of your wetsuit and make it last longer, follow these tips:

• Do not pull or tug when putting on or taking off your wetsuit.
• ALWAYS rinse the wetsuit with fresh water.
• Do not use the washing machine to wash your wetsuit.
• Use a shampoo for surf wetsuits like Rip Curl's PISS OFF, which cleans and disinfects.
• Do not dry your wetsuit in the sun and hang it by the waist so it does not deform.
• Always store it in a cool, dark place when not in use.
