Which surf leash to buy?
When choosing a leash for your surfboard, you should take the following points into account:
- The length of the cord: there is a general rule for this. 6-foot board, 6-foot leash. 8-foot board, 8-foot surf leash. When in doubt, longer is better.
- The thickness of the cord: The more powerful the waves, the stronger the cord should be. For everyday waves, the thickness of the leash is usually 6.5mm (1/4"). Leashes for paddle surfing, due to the large volume of the SUP board, should be between 7-8 mm.
- It is important to have 2 swivel mechanisms at the ends, one at the ankle strap and one at the rail saver to prevent tangling.
How to attach the leash to your surfboard?
Attaching the leash to your surfboard is very simple; you just have to tie the rail saver velcro straps to a small cord that is placed in the plug located on the tail of the board.
The only thing you should be careful about is that the cord is not too long so that it does not come into contact with the edge of the rail, as it can damage the board.
