The R1® TechFace Hoody is Patagonia's answer to a question every mountaineer has asked themselves at some point: what if my fleece could handle what a hardshell handles? This isn't a typical fleece. WHY THE R1® TECHFACE IS DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER FLEECE

The R1® TechFace is more weather-resistant than any windbreaker and infinitely more breathable than any hardshell. Its secret lies in the double-weave fabric: the interior grid is soft, warm, and breathable like a classic Regulator® fleece; but the outer face is a smooth, abrasion-resistant armor that repels moisture and cuts wind where a conventional fleece simply gives in.

It is a garment that has earned its place among backcountry skiers and fly fishermen, proving to be an effective barrier in light rain and windy conditions while remaining active. If you need more protection, it works just as well as a midlayer under a hardshell.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

• 200 g/m² double-weave fabric: 90% recycled polyester + 10% elastane, with a warm, soft-to-the-touch grid interior and a smooth, abrasion-resistant, moisture-repellent outer face.
• PFAS-free DWR finish: durable water-repellent treatment made without intentionally added fluorinated chemicals.
• Articulated slim fit: athletic, tailored cut with an articulated pattern and elastic hood for maximum freedom of movement, especially when reaching overhead or across your body.

USAGE EXAMPLES AND CARE

It also works as an outer layer on cool mountain biking or trail running days, and as a midlayer under a hardshell when the cold really bites.

SIZE GUIDE

The cut is slim fit. Although Patagonia describes it as slim, in practice it tends to have a bit more room than expected, especially in the torso, which allows for a light base layer underneath without losing freedom of movement. If you're in doubt, stick with your usual size; if you're looking for a very tight fit for base layers, consider sizing down.
