Not all grips are born in a design studio. The Slater Designs 5 Piece Action Pad was born in the water, from the hands of Kelly Slater himself, who cut and modified his pads until he found the exact feel he was looking for. The result is the grip that the 11-time world champion chooses for his own sessions: a low arch with grooves, a V-cut kick tail, diamond texture, and five pieces that are adjustable in length. And as a personal nod, it bears the name of his favorite dog, Action. A pad with its own history, made from BLOOM algae biomass foam, which proves that elite surfing and environmental awareness can go in exactly the same direction.

DESIGN BORN FROM THE WATER: WHAT KELLY MODIFIED, NOW IN PRODUCTION

Every detail of the Action Pad has a specific functional origin, not a marketing decision. Kelly Slater had been physically cutting his own pads for a long time before this model existed, looking for a locked-in feel in the arch that conventional designs didn't provide. This pad is the result of that process.

• Low arch with parallel grooves: as wide as the arch on the 3 and 5 Piece Arch models, but significantly lower. The square-grooved edges on both sides of the parallel slits create a "locked-in foot" feel that other arches don't offer. It is exactly the feeling Kelly was looking for when he cut trenches into his own arch.
• V-cut kick tail: Kelly cut a V into the back of the tail piece to prevent the leash from getting caught in the center during pop-ups and maneuvers. A small detail with a real impact in every session.
• Configurable length: the side pieces can be spread apart or brought closer together, allowing you to choose between a longer or shorter pad depending on your foot position preferences or the size of the board's tail. The same pad, two usage configurations.
• Board connection cutouts: the hollowed-out sections reduce material between the foot and the deck, creating a more direct and immediate response in every maneuver.
• Diamond tread: high-performance pattern that combines multi-directional grip with a surface that maintains its properties with continued use.

GRIP CARE AND MAINTENANCE

• Rinse the pad with fresh water after each session to remove salt and sand accumulated in the arch grooves and diamond texture.
• For a deep clean, use a soft brush with soap and water, paying special attention to the cutout sections and the V-cut on the kick tail.
• Avoid solvents, abrasive products, or prolonged exposure to direct sun when the pad is not in use.
• Before applying, clean and degrease the area of the board carefully: a surface free of wax and moisture guarantees maximum 3M adhesion.
• Decide on the length configuration first (side pieces closer together or further apart) and check the position dry before removing the final adhesive backing.
• Press each piece firmly for at least 60 seconds and let it sit for 24 hours before the first session.
