Vans was born on March 16, 1966, in Anaheim, California, when Paul and Jim Van Doren opened their first store and began manufacturing and selling footwear directly to the public. The brand grew hand-in-hand with Southern California skaters, who adopted its rubber soles for their grip on the board, and eventually became synonymous with skate, surf, and street culture under the "Off The Wall" motto. The Old Skool model, launched in the late 70s with its characteristic Sidestripe, is today one of the brand's most recognizable icons, and its Check version brings that same retro spirit to the world of backpacks. Vans also works toward its own sustainability goals: to feature the Checkerboard Globe logo, a product must be composed of at least 30% recycled, renewable, and/or regenerative materials.

USE AND CARE

Clean the backpack with a damp cloth and mild soap, without rubbing the checkerboard print excessively. Do not machine wash or tumble dry: this will cause it to lose its shape and can damage the inner lining. Let it air dry away from direct heat sources, and avoid storing it wet or with wet items inside so it doesn't develop odors.
